Work Experience

Kindred Spirit Kindred Care, LLC (2004-present). In 2003, I was inspired to start writing about my experiences as a veterinarian helping pets and the people who truly cared about them as members of the family. My writing eventually acquired a title and a publisher and turned into a book in 2005. The business and this website were originally created to support the book and its ideas; however, in 2005, I decided to also practice under the same name. Prefering to spend time getting to know each of my patients and clients rather than manage a hospital and a staff, I chose mobile practice. I started learning acupuncture and herbal medicine in 2005 and have continued to incorporate them into treatment plans when appropriate. I continue to work about evenly with dogs, cats, and birds. The ideas I set to paper in my book apply aptly to geriatric and hospice patients and my dog and cat caseload accordingly leans towards the mature population.

Windhover Veterinary Center (1995-2004) is a small animal and exotics practice near Boston owned by radiologist and avian specialist, Dr. Marjorie McMillan. Practice offerings include: radiology, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, surgery, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and integrative medicine. My caseload was approximately evenly divided between dogs, cats, and birds. My particular interest was avian surgery.

South Bay Veterinary Associates (1989-1996) is a 3-veterinarian small animal practice in Boston. I worked here as a full time technician for two years, then on weekends through veterinary school. In my first year as a veterinarian, I divided my time between South Bay and Windhover. In 1996 when I was offered full time positions at both practices, it was my interest in avian medicine and surgery that won.
