Information on Selected Health Care Topics
Communication is a tricky thing. It takes a lot of practice to communicate effectively with clients from all different backgrounds, especially given the time constraints of an average office visit. As with everyone, some veterinarians have better communications skills than others. On the other side, distractions, anxiety, and emotional involvement can decrease anyone's ability to receive information no matter how effectively it is presented. The goal of these pages is to provide a source of information that clients can access and process at a more leisure pace.
Some of the topics I will write about are controversial even amongst people within the veterinary profession. The fact of the matter is that there are diseases, diagnostics, and treatments about which there is a lot of uncertainty and disagreement, even amongst professionals and experts. When there is uncertainty, when there are conflicting ideas and opinions about how best to help a patient, when there is risk of unintentionally harming a patient, it is my preference to educate clients and allow them to make their own informed choices on behalf of their animal companions.

As with any reference, these pages are not a substitute for veterinary care. Veterinary practice is an eyes, ears, nose, and hands-on profession which cannot be accomplished over the Internet.
